Introduction

 

The first International Southeast Asian Bat Conference (SEABCO) was held in collaboration with the Prince of Songkla University and took place in Phuket, Thailand from 7th May until 10th May 2007. The conference was a success attracting125 participants and leading to the second conference four years later which was hosted by the indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in Bogor, Java 6th to 9th June 2011. Now, keeping to our four year cycle, the third conference will be held organized by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and take place in Kuching, Sarawak.

 

International and local researchers, conservation biologists, environmental educators and students interested in all aspects of bats research and conservation in Southeast Asia are invited to present their papers at the conference. This conference focuses on the following areas of bat research-:      

  • Taxonomy and systematics

  • Evolutionary biology

  • Ecology and ecosystem services

  • Conservation biology

  • Microbial ecology

  • Zoonotic diseases

  • Environmental education

 

Leading suppliers of equipment and scientific products will be invited exhibit their products and provide researchers with an opportunity to get the latest information on technical and scientific equipment.

 

So, mark your calendars!! We are delighted to say that the dates have been set for the 3rd International Southeast Asian Bat Conference — SEABCO 2015. SEABCRU Steering Committee Member, Dr Faisal Anwarali Ali Khan of the University of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS) is our local host. More details will follow in the coming months but here are the basics so you can save the dates:

Location: Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

Workshops and trips: we are planning workshops, which may be embedded within the conference or run before, and a post-conference trip to Gunung Mulu World Heritage Area.. Details will follow, but here is notice that you might want to save dates either side of the conference as well.

 

The SEABCO 2015 will be divided into two main events:

 

  • 14-17th August 2015 - 3rd South East Asia Bat Conference

  • 18-20th August 2015 - Postconference trip to Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak (Confirmed)
